About Us

Mr Clive Beech and his experienced staff specialise in providing independent advice for all your personal and family eye care needs. Smith and Varley Opticians incorporating Hooke Opticians have over 25 years of experience in providing professional, independent eye care in Bedworth.

Smith & Varley Opticians was setup by Mr Trevor Smith in Leicester Street Bedworth about 40 years ago. On his retirement he passed the business on to Mr Varley. Mr Smith sadly passed away shortly after his retirement. Mr Richard Varley emigrated to Australia, leaving the practice in the capable hands of Mr Geoff Teers and his wife, Paula, who looked after the practice until their retirement in January 2008.

Our Services

Hookes Opticians was started some 29 years ago by Mr Irwin Hooke, on his return from Australia where he had been working for some time. Mr Hooke retired at Christmas 2007.

Both of these practices have been joined together by Mr Clive Beech, BSc (Hons) MCOptom, and moved to our new premises in Congreve Walk, Bedworth so that we can continue to provide independent, professional care for the people of Bedworth and its surrounding area.

Lenses

The right frame is just the start. We want you to have the right lenses for your eyes and we will discuss your occupation, hobbies and other visual needs before deciding on the best lens to suit you. There is a wide range of lenses available including: bifocals; extra thin lenses for high prescriptions; and Varifocals designed to fit today’s modern shallow frames. We also offer a range of sun glasses or alternatively Transitions and SunSensors which react to changes in light.

Coatings

Anti reflection coatings help you see more clearly by stopping the reflections on the surface of the lens. Hardcoating helps to reduce everyday scratches to a minimum. All our lenses are available with these coatings.

Glazing Laboratory

We now have an onsite Glazing Laboratory so that we can make up your glasses on the same day for most single vision lenses and within 2-3 days for varifocals and bifocals. In urgent situations, for a small additional fee, we can supply varifocals and bifocals by the next day for orders received before 3.30 pm (certain branded lenses may take longer)

Contact Lenses

Advances in contact lens technology now means that there is a contact lens suitable for the vast majority of vision needs regardless of age or prescription. Contact lenses bring far more flexibility and freedom compared to glasses. They move with your eye and the correction is closer to your eye giving you a more natural field of vision. They don’t steam up in the kitchen or get smeared on a rainy day and they don’t fall off when you are running.
